European Roulette is another version of Roulette that actually offers you better odds than American Roulette. The reason for this is that you receive the same payouts in both games, but in European Roulette there is no double 0 spot on the wheel, so you have a greater chance of hitting your number since there are only 37 total numbers, not 38.

If you're not sure what Roulette is, it is actually a table based game with a wheel and a small ball. As you can see in the above image the wheel is on the side of the table, and a casino employee is the only one to touch the Roulette wheel. After everyone places their bets on the table, the croupier (casino employee) spins the Roulette ball in the wheel, and as it slows down it falls onto the numbers on the wheel, eventually settling on one. This is the winning number, and the croupier then pays out all the players who won on their bets.

How to Play European Roulette

To play European Roulette it is actually fairly simple. You place your bets on the table, the croupier spins the ball, and either you win or you lose. What starts to get slightly complicated is actually placing your bets, as there is a wide array of bets that can be made in European Roulette. Don't worry though, we'll teach you all about them.

When it comes to betting on the European Roulette table, you have basically two options: bet inside or bet outside. You can do both at once, but we are going to treat them as separate bets for now in order to better explain them. We'll start with inside bets.

Inside Bets

Inside bets are bets that are placed on the inside of the table, and when you place an inside bet you are speculating that a certain number will win, as opposed to picking a range of numbers that you think will win. So, for example, you could place a $5 chip on the number 7, and if the Roulette ball fell on the number 7 you'd receive a $175 payout because a single inside bet pays off at 35:1 odds.

Besides just placing your chips on a single number, you can also spread them across various numbers and still have it an inside bet. So, if you put a chip on the line between 7 and 8, you'd win if the ball fell on either 7 or 8, but you will only receive a 17:1 payout on the bet, or $75 if we were using the $5 bet as in the example above. As you spread your bet across more and more numbers you are actually getting worse and worse odds, so we don't recommend that.

Outside Bets

Outside bets are bets that are placed on a wide array of numbers, but have lower payoffs when you hit them, because they are much more common winners. Some common outside bets include betting on a whole column, betting on either red or black, and group bets.

A column bet is when you place a bet on an entire column of numbers, 12 in all. This bet pays off 2:1, and you will win slightly less than 2/3 of the times because when the ball lands on 0 or 00 you lose. A red or black bet is when you place a bet on either red colored numbers, or black colored numbers. This one pays off 1:1, but you will win slightly less than 50% of the time because again, the 0 and 00 are green colored numbers.

A group bet is when you place a bet on the first, second, or third group of 12 numbers. This one pays off 2:1 as well.
