Craps

Craps is a game of dice throwing quite popular in casinos. It's similar to an old English game, called Hazard, but much simpler. It probably dates back to the time of the Crusaders and was later played by the French. In fact, the name of the game comes from the French word for toad. The game was originally called “crapaud.”

The name of the game is to place a bet on the outcome of one roll of the dice. In some cases, on a series of rolls. The game of craps is played with only two dice.

How to Play Craps

In craps, players take turns rolling two dice. The payers place wagers on the outcome of a roll. The person who rolls the dice is called the “shooter.” players wager money against the casino on the outcome of one roll, or of a series of rolls of two dice. The Rules

The game of craps is played in rounds. The first dice throw of the first round is called a “come-out roll.”

Once the come-out roll has been thrown and the total of the pair of dice is either 2, 3, 7, 11, or 12, the round ends. The shooter must then roll another. If the next total result adds to 2, 3 or 12, this is called “craps” and the shooter must pass his bet and loses. However, if a total score of 7 or 11 is thrown, this is called a “natural” and what happens then is that the shooter wins.

When the numbers 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 are totaled on the come-out roll, then this number is a “point.” What this means is that, mean there is a point, the shooter must roll again and again, continuously, until either a 7 or the point is rolled once again. If shooter happens to roll the point again, then the shooter wins what is called the pass line bet. Then, the rounds ends and a new round begins immediately.

In this case, if the shooter rolls a 7 and does not roll the point, then the shooter loses the pass line bet and the round ends. Finally, the dice are passed onto another player, the one sitting to the left of the shooter, and that player becomes the shooter.

The Types of Wagers or Bets

Betting is what makes craps an exciting game and players can place a large number and variety of bets or wagers. As with most bets, these bets are placed on the outcome of the a given game. Bets range from betting on a specific total or on a specific total being rolled before a 7.

In a game of craps a player can make about forty different types of bets. Two of the most basic bets are described here:

Passline Bet – this is a simple bet. A player places the bet on the passline before the shooter rolls the dice. If a 7 or 11 is rolled, the player wins. If a 2, 3 or 12 is rolled, the player loses. Any other number becomes the point number and the shooter must roll the point number before a 7 and the player will win. If the 7 is rolled before the point, the player loses.

Odds Bet – after the shooter has rolled the point, the player can make another bet behind the passline. This bet does not have a house edge and pays off with excellent Craps odds.

Most craps experts encourage players to try the passline bet, as it is the easiest and simplest of the lot. If you are a beginner, you should always beginning experimenting with craps bets and wagers with the passline bet.

The bets and wagers available for craps are many and some are rather complicated to understand, especially for beginners. In general, the casino card game known as craps is one of the best games to play as a beginner and even as a seasoned card player. Why?
