Rules of Sic Bo

Sic Bo is a dice game which is Chinese in origin but that many people compare to craps. Although it is slightly reminiscent, there are many differences. One of the main differences is that Sic Bo is played with three dice rather than two. In most places, the dice are mechanically rolled and then the winning area of the table lights up.

This is quite a fun game and although one of the less known casino games, it is very popular among gamblers. If you've ever played the English game Grand Hazard or the US game Birdcage (Chuck-a-Luck), you will probably notice some very distinct similarities. Although these games used to be played in casinos, they were often replaced by Sic Bo tables. Here are the rules for playing Sic Bo.

Sic Bo Bets

There are eight different ways to bet with Sic Bo. The first is to simply bet on one number. The thing is, if you bet on one number, it must appear on all three dice, like a three of a kind. The odds of this actually happening are pretty slim (1 out of 216) but if you do hit that number, your payout will be 150 to 1!

You can also bet on a number which must appear on two of the dice. This is the two of a kind and the chances of winning are about 5.82%. You can bet that the same number will appear on all three dice without indicating which number it is. This is called Any Three of a Kind and you have about a 6 out of 216 chance of winning. Of course, payout is 24 to 1.

You can skip these high risk bets by betting even money bets in an area called small. This is a process where you bet on the sum of the three dice. You will bet that the sum will either be equal to the numbers four, five six, seven, eight, nine or ten. This does not count for three of a kind numbers, like 3 (three ones) or six and nine are invalid with small bets.

Similarly, you can choose to bet the even money bets in an area called big. You bet the sum of the dice will either be eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen or seventeen. Of course, the three of a kind numbers don't count here either, so twelve, fifteen and sixteen don't count.

Wider Range Bets

If you want to play it even safer than that, you can bet on one of the numbers on the board which range from four to seventeen. If you bet on one of these numbers, you are betting that the sum of the three dice will add up to one of the numbers in this area. Depending upon the number that you choose, the payout will be higher or lower.

For instance, if the winning number is a four, the payout is fifty to one! For the number five, payout is thirty to one. For the number six, winning bets are paid eighteen to one. For a sum of seven, the payout is twelve to one. For a sum of eight, the payout is eight to one. For a sum of nine, ten, eleven or twelve, the payout is six to one.

For the sum of thirteen, the payout is eight to one with the sum of a fourteen pays twelve to one. For a sum of fifteen, the payout will be eighteen to one. For the number sixteen, the payout is thirty to one and with the last number rule, with a seventeen sum, the payout is fifty to one again.

There are many different variations of this game and people truthfully love to play this game for the risks as well as the great payoffs. Remember to set yourself a budget so that you don't go overboard with your bets as many of these. This is very important and something that many seasoned gamblers have to struggle to remember at times!
