Craps Odds

Whether you're a complete Craps newbie or someone who has played a few games here and there, you would probably be willing to admit that it's quite a fascinating game. For this reason, it has become the most popular game at casinos and one of the most well-loved games of all time.

Other things that are very interesting and fascinating about craps are the odds and the bets. From the simplest to the most complex, you can have a lot of fun if you know what you're doing. Here is some more information on Craps odds as well as the bets.

Pass Line Bet

Of course, this is when the shooter is making his or her 'coming out' roll. Let's assume that you bet with the shooter this time. No matter what you bet, if the shooter rolls a 7 or 11 to begin with, you win! However, if the shooter rolls a 2, a 3 or a 12, it is Craps and you automatically lose.

Assuming the shooter has rolled a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or a 10, this number will become the point number. Should the shooter make the point number again before a 7 is rolled, you will win. However, if the 7 is rolled before the point number, you will lose. If you win in this bet, you will win even money. The house advantage on this bet is 1.41%, which is not bad.

Taking the Odds

This is one bet in which the house has no edge! After making your pass line bet, when the shooter makes the point number, you can bet up to so many times of your pass line bet. The normal amount is typically 3 to 5 times.

This is simply reinforcing your belief that the point number will be rolled again before the 7. Should you win, when the point is 6 or 8, the odds will pay 6 to 5. However, if the point is a 5 or 9, the odds will pay 3 to 2. When the point is a 4 or 10, odds will pay 2 to 1.

Don't Pass

The near opposite of Pass Line, this is where you are betting against the shooter. With a come out roll of 2 or 3, you have won, but with a come out roll of 7 or 11, you lose. When the come out roll is a 12, it is called a 'push.' When the 7 is rolled before the point number, you win and if the point number is rolled before the 7, you will lose. Again, these wins pay even money. The house has an edge of 1.36% here.

Laying Odds

This bet is the opposite of the bet 'taking odds.' You are betting against the shooter, and you are betting that the 7 will be rolled before the point number. Should the point number be a 4 or 10, the odds will pay 1 to 2.

If the point number is a 5 or 9, odds pay 2 to 3 and if the point is 6 or 8, the odds will pay out 5 to 6. The payout depends on what you placed as your 'don’t pass' bet. Also, it is affected by the multiple of odds which is allowed at the specific casino you are playing at.

Additional Bets

Betting a Crap 2 – This is where you think a 2 will be thrown next. This pays out 30 to 1 with a house edge of 13.89%.

Betting a Crap 3 – You think 3 will be the very next roll. This pays out 15 to 1 with an edge of 11.11%.

Betting a 7 – You think that 7 will be the next roll. If you win, you get paid 4 to 1 with a house edge of 16.67%.

Betting an 11 – You think that 11 will be the next roll. You get paid 15 to 1 if you're right, with a house edge of 11.11%.

Betting a Crap 12 – You think 12 will be the next roll. You will get paid 30 to 1 if you're right, but the house has an edge of 13.89%.

Betting Any Craps – You think the next roll will either be a 2, a 3 or a 12. These bets pay out 7 to 1 with a house edge of 11.11%.

These are the most popular of bets, although there are certainly more with the more knowledge you gain of Craps. They can go from the very simplest bets to the most complicated. This could be why Craps is so loved and popular. There are many ways to win, but a loss can pop up fast!
