Rules of Craps
Craps is one of the oldest and most beloved of all Casino games.
In fact, more money is spent in the casinos on Craps than on any
other game. Many seasoned gamblers think that this is the most
exciting game there is. If you've never played it, you
definitely should see what all the buzz is about. Before you
run off to play, there are some rules that you should keep in mind
as well as some general information on how to play
Craps. So,
without further ado…
How to Play Craps
The first thing you're going to do is establish a 'point' number. Then, you want to roll this number again before you roll a 7, which is craps. When you are establishing your point numbers, only 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10 can be point numbers. So, to establish your point number, you will roll two die against the opposite side of the table. This is called your 'come out' roll. Should you happen to roll one of the above numbers, you will have established your point number.
Numbers and Rolls
There are only certain ways that you can roll certain numbers. For instance, if you roll a 6, you can roll it with 5 and 1, 4 and 2 and 3 and 3. However, you can only roll a 2 with a 1 and a 1. In more elaborate Craps games, players can bet on rolls using the different number configurations. These are called 'hard ways,' and they pay more money. Similarly, if you bet on numbers that can only be rolled certain ways, you will also win more money.
Betting on the Game
Now, imagine you are watching a shooter and he or she is getting ready to roll their come out roll. Do you think they will establish a point number? If so, you will be with the shooter by placing your tokens on the 'pass line.' This is also called 'betting right.' However, if you don't think he or she will establish a point number before rolling craps or another special number, you will be betting against the shooter or 'betting wrong.' This is done by placing your tokens on the 'don't pass' line.
If the shooter makes a point number, you will win if you have bet with the shooter. Now, you can bet whether or not the shooter will roll that point number again before rolling craps. This is called 'taking odds.' In a Craps game, you can jump in and bet at any time.
Craps Strategies
One of the most popular Craps strategies is to win on anything but seven. This gives you a higher chance of winning. In order to do this, you will not bet until the shooter has established a point number. You will then place coins on the numbers 5, 6, and 8. You will also place coins on the playing field. The key strategy point here is that most shooters roll the die an average of 5 times before they roll craps. Betting in this way will give you an upper hand, but experts suggest removing your bets after three rolls.
Although there are many complicated strategies that seasoned players use, some of the best strategies lie in getting your game right. This involves using discipline as well as money management when you're playing Craps. For instance, the first thing you should know is to never expect huge wins. For the most part, you will make 10% to 20% over what your initial investment was. Remembering this fact will help you keep a clear head as to what to expect.
Discipline
One of the most important strategies has everything to do with discipline. Experienced Craps players warn that it's important to have goals as far as your wins and losses. Once your goals for bets are made, you need to walk away from the table.
This is important even if you feel like you're on a winning streak. If you are unable to discipline yourself, you stand to lose everything that you have invested. Another bit of advice is to never, ever play with scare money, or money that you cannot afford to lose.
Using the tips and techniques in this guide to Craps rules and strategies, you can begin playing at a basic level. As you learn the basic part of the game, the more strategic and complicated parts will reveal themselves to you.
